Renewal

Once your trade mark has been registered, you must renew it on the tenth anniversary of the filing date and every ten years after that, if you want to maintain the registration. You may, of course, choose not to renew it, or voluntarily surrender it at any time.

You can renew a registration up to six months before the renewal date, but you will be reminded three months before your renewal is due, and you will be sent the correct form to do so, if you have not already renewed your mark.

We will then send you a Renewal Certificate confirming that your mark has been renewed for the next ten-year period.

Late renewal

If you do not pay your renewal fee by the renewal date, your mark becomes EXPIRED. However, you are allowed an extra six months from the renewal date in which to renew your registration, but you will have to pay an extra fee of £50 for late renewal.

Following this six-month period, there is a further six-month period, i.e. a total of up to one year after the renewal date, in which you may apply to restore your mark.
