Goods and services
need to be recognised and categorised into appropriate classes,
defined by the Trade Marks Registry. This is required to clearly
identify the type of products or services offered by the business.

for your trade mark affairs. You may not need them during the initial
application process but may prefer to have them for advisory purposes
in the life of your trade mark(s).
The
examination process
This section outlines the
process of examination of a trade mark application, leading to the
approval or otherwise of your desired trade mark. Before sending
in your application, please assure yourself that you have checked
and verified that your proposed trade mark is in conformance with
the governing legislation and the rules and regulations provided
by the UK Patent Office.
Trade
Marks Act 1994
This the currently applcable legislation governing
the registration of trade marks and the protection of registered
trade marks in the United Kingdom.
Trade
Marks Rules 2000
The Trade Marks Registry administers the Trade Marks
Act according to the detailed rules, which are subject to change
from time to time. This is the current issue of the Rules and have
been in force since 17 February 2000.
